     While there are some "blended" courses available with a mix of online and classroom/lab attendance, they are relatively rare. They are not well regarded and are usually tend to be seen as the student's way of trying to cut corners. Actual classroom programs are far more important in programs that should have lab work such as the vet program you mentioned. While they might have some online courses, legit universities typically limit any online credit to no more than 12 semester hours of online class counting towards a bachelors degree. There have been widespread reports of students hiring impostors to take online courses or them. The impostor takes the online course, but someone else gets the credit. As a result, any online course is considered questionable. As a former recruiter, i can say that we would never hire anyone with an online degree.
     The bottom line here is that you need to avoid any online programs or any for-profit colleges. Actual college classroom attendance is much more acceptable in the job market. It also allows for a closer interaction not available otherwise. Part of the overall college experience is also related to the social interactions.

     Not from any accredited colleges or universities.
     Franklin Pierce University (fully accredited) offers a minor in parapsychology with a major in psychology at the Bachelors level.
     Doctorates in parapsychology are not offered (from accredited universities) in the U.S. except possibly by special arrangement with schools like University of California, Berkley that are know for designing and awarding unusual degrees (one in magic).

     Also, most people working in parapsychology do not have degrees in parapsychology. They usually hold doctorates in a conventional science (physics, medicine, psychology, anthropology, engineering, etc.). They usually do their dissertation on a parapsychology subject.

    Which are the BEST online Bachelor's Degree programs?
    First, I would like to begin with a brief overview. Currently, I am a 21 year old sophmore attending Hofstra University out on Long Island, NY. I took the first 2 years after graduating high school off, because I honestly didn't know what I wanted to do. I made the decision I wanted to obtain my B.S. in Finance, Business Administration, or Management so I applied to Hofstra University and was accepted.

    I now face a major decision in my life and have come here for honest opinions and possible guidance. I just got offered at job with a base salary of ,000 which requires full-time work. This means I must leave Hofstra University, but still wanting to obtain my Bachelor's. I have been reviewing some online programs which will allow me to do both, which is exactly what I want, but I don't know where to apply. If there's one thing I want to make clear it's that I don't want to attend a typical online degree program (i.e. University of Phoenix, Kaplan University, AIU, Ashford University, etc). I want to attend a well known college such as Boston U, Penn State, etc. however I can only find MBA programs for such.

    If you know of any online programs which you think I may like please let me know as I am honestly caught in the crossroads and have little time to make a HUGE decision.       "Best" is such a subjective term that there really hasn't been a valid rating system for online programs like there have been for traditional programs.

      Bottom line is that the best online programs will be at the best traditional colleges. Peterson's has a pretty good search engine for online programs but remember that the world of distance learning is in a state of constant change.       A search on bachelor's with business administration as the major returned five pages to look at. Penn State is on that list. BS in Business Administration http://www.worldcampus.psu.edu/BachelorinBusiness.shtml

      Plenty of these are state colleges (Kansas State, UMass, UHawaii, UIllinois, UMichigan, UWisconsin, etc.) that would offer a good combination of quality and price while many others are those "as seen on TV" schools that you probably prefer to avoid.

      Take a look at the search engine and see what you think. There are plenty of good options out there. If I were looking for a bachelor's in a business area, I'd be inclined to like UMass Amherst's BBA http://www.umassonline.net/degrees/Online-Degree-Bachelor-Business-Administration.cfm

      Add: I'm not so sure that the statistical data or the academic research supports Angel's opinion about the value of a college degree. I'm sure you're not hoping to stay in this same position at the same salary for the rest of your life. We both know that the degree (any degree) will be needed for advancement.

      You won't find any. MBA programs prefer students with 2-3 years work experience after the first degree. Some accept students right out of college if they have good grades and a high GMAT score. Some MBA programs are designed specifically for new college graduates without work experience. But in those programs you don't get the benefit of learning from other students who have work experience. A lot of valuable learning takes place through class interaction. Also when you graduate your job offers will be about the same as a business undergraduate gets because you have no work experience, and you've been two years out of your undergraduate field so it's hard to get work in that area.

      You must go to a traditional classroom to complete your Nursing degree because of the hands on training. Once you obtain your degree than you could take additional courses online for career advancement.

      Most online programs focus on business (accounting, marketing, human resources), health (nursing, psychology), or some other more popular discipline. The closest thing to what you're describing would be a BA in Humanities. Not too many online programs cover BA disciplines.

      There are accelerated degree programs. For example, here in NY, there are several. Where are you based, or are you willing to move?

    If I enroll in an enroll in an online bachelors degree program, will I have trouble being accepted into law schools if I get a high enough score on the LSAT?

      I'd like to see some statistics on that. My guess is that selectors for Law School will want to see the social competence that comes from attending on-campus courses. The other issue is whether online students score as well on the LSAT. I suspect not. The online students I've met (if they dare own up to it) are not very bright.

    I've been researching online for a few hours now and I can't find to many affordable online bachelor degree programs. I would like to earn one in Legal Studies (or paralegal). Thus far the cheapest school I've found is Western Governors University, however they don't offer a B.S. in Paralegal (or Legal) Studies.

    After taking the advice, i contacted one of the schools around the new England area. Do schools in different region have different organization where they receive the accreditation? The school I have contacted for example are accredited by the "New England Association of Schools and Colleges". Do accreditations differ depending on the organization or are they pretty much considered the same? I did a research online but it is so complex and I could not find a straight answer.       AIU Online (American InterContinental University) has a really good accreditated 100% online BA program. I am a student there in the BA program and I graduate in a couple of months!     I am in my forties, and I am currently enrolled in an online bachelor's degree program.?
    My selected field is criminal justice; however, I have read in several places that people over age 37 are not usually considered for jobs such as probation or parole officers. I assume that I am too old to be a police officer, although I am not interested in going that route, truthfully, there is not much I would like to do other than psychology or social work. I would like to do it in a correctional type atmosphere working with adults. The problem is that I started my degree in criminal justice and really do not want to disregard the classes I took or start over in another field. The problem is once I get my bachelor's degree in criminal justice, I am afraid that I will not be able to find a job. I am not sure that I will be able to get my master’s degree in social work, so I would like to play it safe just in case.       You cannot be over the age of 37 and be hired as a FEDERAL probation officer because the federal system has mandatory retirement at age 57, and you have to have 20 years on the job to get your pension...

      HOWEVER, there is no reason why you cannot become a city, county, or state probation officer...

If you can get involved in an internship at a local probation department while you wrap up your degree, that would help...       My best recommendation would be to contact a number of colleges to find the best fit for you and your needs (tuition, schedule, career opportunities, etc.). Too often people enroll in the first school they find rather than taking the time to find the best school for them. Taking that time now could save you a lot of time, money and frustration if you choose the wrong school.

    I live in California and almost all of our state schools are not accepted students for next year due to budget constraints.     Future - Whilst the university has regional accreditation, its online business degrees lack professional accreditation from the AACSB. AACSB-accredited degrees have the highest reputation amongst academics and employers alike for business degree accreditation.

    Phoenix is a joke. You are paying for the degree. You cannot transfer to a Masters program anywhere else with a BA from Phoenix. They lock you into their overpriced, poorly taught school. No thanks.

      There are many colleges that offer degrees in history through distance learning. Some good ones to look into include Columbia College, Dickinson State University, Mercy College,
      Northeastern University, Regent University, SUNY Empire State College, Thomas Edison State College, University of Houston-Victoria, and University of Maryland University College. I attend SUNY Empire and it is a good school. But you have to write a rationale essay and create your own degree plan (it's not as easy as it sounds). Still, it has a low tuition rate, and the classes do transfer to other institutions of high learning. Good luck!

      Your best bet is to go to a state school that offers online classes. The other schools that advertise as being an online school are usually more expensive and your degree may not be worth anything.

    Okay, I'm now looking into being a librarian. You need a masters in library science and I've found plenty of ALA accredited online programs for this, but I need a bachelors degree first. All of the 'real' colleges with online bachelor degree programs I have been able to find are only bachelor completion programs which means I'd have to take 2 years of college somewhere else and then transfer. I really don't want to have to go through the hassle of trying to transfer my credits over and over again. Does anyone know of any programs, completely online, in which you can earn a bachelors degree from start to finish? 'Real' colleges please- I'd like to steer away from online universities with advertisements all over the internet, if at all possible because I don't know if I can trust them.

      Oh, goodness, such a difficult question. The reality is that there aren't that many reputable online options in these fields.

      In reality, so long as your school meets my first two requirements, you'll be hired mainly based on the quality of your portfolio. So based on all that, I can only recommend two online programs in your field:
      - Savannah College of Art and Design (my preference, as is more reputable than...)
      - Academy of Art University (which is a solid program, but SCAD has an edge over them in reputation)

      Neither are exactly cheap. But they are far more worth their expense than the other schools you mentioned. And SCAD really is quite good.

      To save money, can you study this at a local university instead? If you can do this via your local community college or state college, you'll save money, and those are reputable options.

      While you're studying via distance, try to get yourself some real-world work in the field, which you can use on your resume and in your portfolio. Of course, as a distance student, you won't be able to do an actual internship, and perhaps you're working, so that may not be possible. But you could, say, volunteer to manage the website for your local figure skating club, or design a website for a local charity, or the local Cub Scout Pack, or something local, and of limited duration, but real-world. It'd be as if you're creating your own internship, but having this sort of experience on your resume will really help you get an actual job in the field when you graduate.

    I was looking into Berkeley college, for Human Resources, online. I liked being able to take the entire program online, and get a bachelor's in 3 years. But the more I read people's opinions, it sounds like getting a job is a joke because Berkeley is comparable to University of Phoenix, etc.etc.

      I am also a graduate student at AMU like Corvus and I'm very satisfied with what my school provides from every single aspect. If a school is regionally accredited, it should not be a problem that it is online but online schools have good and bad reputation as well. Always look for a school that has regional accreditation and a real campus. I am hoping for a good job with my degrees even though I think I will want to complete another Master's in a traditional institution in the future. Online education helps you save time that you would spend traveling to a campus and it is much more flexible - but it is not true that you won't have to study a lot - I went to a brick and mortar college before starting my online education and I have to study much more as an online student. I'm not complaining, it is good that online education is not just a diploma mill and I am sure most employers realize that too. So my answer is just do what you want, you won't regret it as long as you invest all your energy and ambitions into learning something new.

    I am currently taking classes at a community college in route to getting my Associate in Arts degree. I was going to transfer to a local University, but I have recently been thinking about maybe signing up for a Bachelors Program with University of Pheonix Online.       I disagree that University of Phoenix is a diploma mill. One look at their tuition prices will indicate it is more expensive than most community colleges.

      Swimbike and I agree on this. Make certain the school you attend is regionally accredited. However, if you have a choice, get a degree from a state school and not one of the for-profits (Phoenix, Kaplan, Strayer, etc.). I have heard of some people having problems gaining admittance to Master's programs. I'm not saying that all graduates can't get into Master's from one of those schools, just I have heard of some.

      Also, concerning the for-profits, there are many programs that are regionally accredited that are much cheaper. Try your state university first and your community colleges. You can also find some good information at http://www.geteducated.com It's a free site and you don't have to sign up for anything on the site to get some good info. They do request you sign up to get their free guides though.

      To Rmp, you wrote, "I'm teach at college!!! and Know what I'm talking about!" How about learning how to form a coherent sentence before expecting us to believe you teach at a college. Also, the USDE (Department of Education) doesn't accredit schools. There are accrediting agencies that are recognized as acceptable by the USDE and CHEA, but they don't accredit schools themselves.

      There are... but employers don't view them as academically rigorous as degrees from brick-and-mortar universities. Because of this, no matter how good the program is, I suggest trying local state university options first. They're often cheaper anyway.

      No degree is "laughable" though, in my opinion. It shows that you worked hard and obtained a college education. It's just that if they are choosing between two candidates who seem of equal skill, most employers will go with the person with a degree from Penn State over the one with a degree from DeVry.

    Has anyone taken an online adult degree program?
    I dropped out of college due to personal time issues. Now my life is in better order and I'm going to finish my degree. I attended City University of New York's (CUNY) community colleges and now CUNY has an online bachelors degree. When reading about the degree they keep using emphasis about how it's for really busy people, they call it more of a way to "complete your degree" instead of "getting a degree", you need to have 30 transferable college credits to be accepted, you need to be out of school at least a year to be accepted, they allow you to transfer up to 90 community college credits (you need 120 for the degree) when other colleges accept at most 60, they say half of all students make it to dean's list and the degree is in communications (not the hardest degree to get) and also, when they did my transfer credit evaluation, they transferred credits into classes that had nothing to do with each other.

    These are all signs that this degree may be less demanding than a normal bachelors degree.

    Should I expect this not to be as difficult as other programs? I'm very worried about paying for tuition and not being able to do it.

      I havent looked at the degree map for their online program, so it is difficult to know how they might award transfer credits, but generally, if it is a cognate equivalent, the transfer creits are accepted.

      Their online degree is a 'degree completion program', and there is nothing wrong with that (CT has Charter Oaks State College). I understand yor worries, but in the end, the degree from City College is a degree... complete it and get your ticket punched, get on the train, enjoy the ride.

    My graduate school isn't verifying my degree certificate (online program), what to do?
    I did my graduate degree through an online program and then went on to do my post graduate degree from a recognized school, there weren't any issues but recently the local franchise through which I did my graduate program closed their operations and just to ensure that all is good I tried to get my credentials verified from the University and they refused to acknowledge the degree. Though I have a post graduate degree from another University but I am still concerned because while I have a Masters degree I don't have a Bachelors degree anymore! Please suggest what should I do? Should I register myself into another bachelors program and if I do so, what will be the standing of my post graduate degree or is there any other option which I can opt?

      Hey,

      Not to be rude, but you really shoul not have done you Bachelor's degree through an online service, but what you should do is go through an Accredidation Service. The US has multiple Accredidation services that certify the value to college degrees, and usually students who attend universities overseas or lesser-known institutions need to go through this.

      They evaluate whether the courses and course content you went through in credible. They also look at the college or university in which you received your degree. It's a hassle to go through this process, but many students have done it. Just hope that they do not reject you, because then you degree may not have any merit or value.

      Also be aware that private businesses and organizations normally do not look for verifications and so forth, they simply want to know you have a degree and are capable in withstanding the task at hand. Public agencies, on the other hand, require it so good luck.

    Can I get into an online or on campus master's program without completing my bachelor's degree?
    I have 72 credits towards my bachelor's degree in Psychology but due to extreme financial constraints was not able to complete it. I am now looking into online schools because I dread the time to go back and complete it, mainly because not all of my credits will transfer to the schools that I am applying to. In order to avoid the set back I would really like to jump into a master's program. I have little work experience in the actual field of pscyhology but i was hoping that there was a way that I could acheive my Masters Degree without finishing undergrad, even if it takes me 3 years or more and it's outside the U.S. MOney is an issue ofcourse. I dont want to pay to re-take classes which I have already taken cause I have to think about saving for Grad SchooI since I do not qualify for financial Aid. I am desperate. Please help me!

      No credible program will take the credits you have and no work experience as the basis for a Master's program. Think about it too...would you want a degree from a school that would ignore your lack of education and experience? What value is there in that?

      What is your goal? To learn or simply to have a Master's degree? If the former then you are MUCH better off finishing your BS and then finding a program at a GOOD school. If you simply want the piece of paper then you might as well buy a fake degree.

      My suggestion:

      Go back to the original school where you have the 72 credits and finish up the BS there. It doesn't matter if they are not local to you. Talk to the department head there and see if there is a way you can work out a series of substitute courses, independent study, and maybe on-line work. You should be able to finish in a year full-time! Then you'll be able to apply for an MS program at ANY school! You'll also feel a lot better about yourself having finished the RIGHT way.
