Online Schools For Bachelors Degree

Grad School Expectations - What Can you Expect to Gain
Although it is hard for some to believe, there is life beyond earning your undergraduate degree and heading out into the workforce. While undergraduate school allowed you to pursue your major in a general study, graduate school is an opportunity for you to explore a more specific area of study through research and teaching. A graduate education is quite different from an undergraduate education. While your undergraduate degree provided you with overview of a broader field of academic research, your graduate degree will allow you to focus on a more specific area of study. A graduate degree program will allow you to further advance your knowledge, skills and research technique in a more in-depth nature, on a topic that you studied during your undergraduate education.

Graduate school demands a lot more of your focus and a sense of self-motivation than what was required of you during your undergrad. Since graduate school assumes that you have acquired superior research skills during your undergraduate education, graduate school will require you to formally present your research, publish papers, and participate in seminars. One skill that you can thus expect to flower during graduate school is your ability to clearly and effectively communicate your ideas to others that posses various levels of knowledge in your area of study.
Everyone has their own reasons for attending graduate school and earning an advanced degree. If you ask 3 different people why they chose to go to grad school, you are likely to hear 3 different answers. Since you have your own reasons for attending graduate school, what you will gain from attending will vary based on your goals and expectations.

Many students who have earned their bachelor degree decide to enter the workforce to gain real-world experience after graduation. Once they have worked for awhile, they are either looking for a promotion with their current company or an advancement in their career. This is when they discover that the upper levels of their field are closed to individuals without an advanced degree. They may also have a sense that their career options are limited by the skills and knowledge that they have acquired from undergraduate school and from their work experience.

Some individuals want to teach at a junior college or university level and therefore need an advanced degree. Also, individuals who want to conduct research must have an advanced degree. And still others want to update their skills and knowledge from that which they earned in their undergraduate education. Some people gain the skills and knowledge from earning their master degree that will allow them to advance in their career and increase their income. Some grad school attendees had a change in interest for a career path and thus decide to pursue an advanced degree to provide them with the skills and knowledge that they will need to pursue this particular path. Finally, others choose to attend grad school as a means to continuing their education.

So which scenario applies to you? In order to really determine what you can expect to gain from grad school, first you will have to evaluate your motivations for going in the first place.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
Online Schools - What are the best online schools to get a bachelors degree in IT?
Need to finally complete the requirements for a degree so I need an online school that can help me reach my goal. Any experiences with online schools? Thanks.

    • ANSWER:
I would check out Devry in chicago. I don't have a degree from there, but i have friends who have graduated from there. I also live in Chi-City, so I know it is a reputable school.

  2. QUESTION:
Online schools that offer a Bachelors degree in Communication?
I am wanting to go to school online to major in Communications and I was wondering what schools are best to go to? Also what is the difference between Bachelors of Arts in Communications and Bachelor of Science in Communications? Also if there are schools that give scholarships for Military Spouses of a Veteran?

    • ANSWER:
There are tons of online programs. I personally attended American Intercontinental Univ. and Capella University, and have taught for various online schools including the University of Phoenix. All are accredited and solid programs. Online courses tend to vary in price, so we could say they are more expensive, but that is relative. Of course they are more expensive than a community college, but less expensive than Harvard. The price range varies.

The key is to find a program that is fully accredited. Is it worth it? YES. My career has boomed since my MBA at nearly 5 years ago. I am close to finishing my PhD through distance education, and I am at the job that I want. I know I wouldn’t be here without the education. If you are looking at work in the U.S., then you need a school that is accredited and recognized by the Dept of Ed. I can give more info on that later.

You should market yourself and not the degree or university. There are many traditional universities offering degrees that can be earned through online methods. Distance Learning Alliance has a list of these traditional online schools. Look at that if you are truly concerned with the name of the school. Good luck on your search!

  3. QUESTION:
What online schools offer an accredited Bachelor Degree in Hospitality and Tourism Management?
I am looking for a FULL (not just a completion program because I have no transfer credits) Bachelors Degree in Hospitality and Tourism Management at an online school. It needs to be accredited and preferably not very expensive. I'm having some trouble finding many online schools that even offer this degree. Can anyone provide me with some helpful suggestions?

    • ANSWER:
I just did a web search and came up with a whole page of schools that offer this degree:

      http://www.elearners.com/online-degrees/hotel-and-hospitality-management.htm

Online schools are not cheap. For the most part, they are private, and charge the same rates as a traditional private school. However, almost all colleges offer some types of Distance Learning or Extension Degree programs online now. A couple that were listed on this site were state schools--Univ. of Mass., and Univ. of Delaware. Contact your state college or university or look on their website and see what they have to offer. Can't hurt to look.

  4. QUESTION:
Online bachelors degree with no curriculum based classes?
A close friend has just finished a four year degree fron an online university. He plans to be an elementary school teacher. His degree is actually in classroom management and while he took a lot of classes on managment, communication and even comparative religon, he has had absolutely nothing in psych, sociology, developmental psychology or not a hint of anything about developing and implementing curriculum, nor any class observation or student teaching. He is getting ready to start a Master's from the same online school and they say he can get all he needs for the actual teaching prep at that level. Does this sound odd?? All the ed programs I have been in or considered have you doing a lot of the basic core work in your first four, with your master's years being used to focus in on a specialty or get a better understanding of how to plan and implement, state testing and IEP implementation.

    • ANSWER:
You do not say where you are from. I can only answer as to what happens in the US. Each state specifies what is needed from their credential candidates. I candidate must have a sponsor school. The schools must provide a program that fulfills state requirements. If he is attending an accredited school, and is recommended for his credential - there should be no problem. Often schools have different requirements and degree options.

I do not know of any state that does not require a student teaching portion however. You do not state if he is a credential candidate - there is a big difference between the Ba and the credentialing work.

  5. QUESTION:
Online Bachelors Degree to become a Physicist?
Would an online bachelors degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with a
Concentration in Math/Physics from Ellis University (online) adequately prepare me to pursue a masters & doctorate in physics?

Scroll down from here for course details:
    http://www.ellis.edu/schools/bachelors/interdisciplinary-studies.php

    • ANSWER:
      Unfortunately, no. Not even close.

In order to study physics at the graduate level, you need the following mathematical stuff mastered:

      probability and statistics
      multivariable calculus
      differential equations
linear algebra and some other mathematical techniques that are usually wrapped up in a "math for physicists" undergraduate course

As for the actual physics, graduate level physics courses (E&M, classical, quantum, stat mech) do not explicitly assume prior knowledge--they start from the beginning. HOWEVER, it is very, very rare that someone takes them without having learned the material at the undergraduate level. A graduate level course doesn't "stop to smell the flowers" and go over the physical implications of the theories in great detail. It jumps from one important result to the next without pausing for breath. So in practice, it is pretty much impossible to get through them without good previous knowledge.

Looking at the required courses, it looks like they offer about half the prob/stats you need, about 1/3 the calculus, no diffeq's, a bunch of stuff like trig that you should learn in high school, and some applied math techniques for technicians. That isn't going to cut it.

Because the math prereqs aren't there, the physics courses can't give you the needed depth. You can learn ABOUT physics, but you just can't learn the fundamentals of how to DO physics without that math. You get a smattering of classical mechanics and E&M (less than half of what you need), maybe a little bit of wave mechanics. Virtually no quantum mechanics or statistical mechanics.

The only courses I can see in the entire course catalog that you could take that could be later applied towards an actual physics degree are:

Calculus 1 and 2 (not the business calc)
Introduction to Physics 1 and 2 (not the "humanity and physics" or "journey through the universe" courses)

And those aren't even listed as requirements toward the math/physics concentration....

  6. QUESTION:
Can you go to graduate school with an online bachelors degree?
a friend of mine is considering completing her college career online. the traditional college experience hasnt worked out for and she is not considering any majors thay require labs. i know that she has been on the deans list a couple of times at the schools she has been to (transfered at least twice) but something about college is not working for her ( i think she hate college life and "the college kid mentality"). idk. she wants to go to law or business school eventually. is she limiting her options of good graduate schools with an online degree or does it matter as long as the lsat or gmat scores are high. i could understand if she had a kid or have some other obligations like active duty military but i still dont know. i dont look down on distance learning, but there is still a stigma attached to online degrees and i dont this to limit her. (she told me that there are some online degrees that offered through reputable colleges where you have to take your exams proctered and its the same as a traditional degree). so, is the online degree a good idea and can she get into a good law school with it.

    • ANSWER:
Online degrees are not respected in academia. It would be difficult for her to be accepted grad school or law school with a purely online degree.

  7. QUESTION:
best online schools for bachelors degrees?
I am active duty US Army, so I need to be able to continue my classes when I am deployed. I am from MA but UMASS online doesnt offer instate tuition for online classes. So it would cost me ,200 per year to complete 30 credits. I am going to school for criminal justice. If I get my degree from University of Pheonix or a similur school, I will not be able to go to law school in the future. I am wondering if there are any other serious online schools besides UMASS that would cost me less, but not make me look like a joke.

    • ANSWER:
Many traditional and respected "brick & mortar" colleges now offer courses and degrees online.

Three purely online schools with decent reputations are:

      Western Governors U
      Excelsior College
      Athabasca U

Do NOT be tempted by American Military University. It's just another worthless predatory for-profit school targeting active military.

  8. QUESTION:
Does a University of Pheonix online bachelors degree really look good to employers?
I am currently taking classes at a community college in route to getting my Associate in Arts degree. I was going to transfer to a local University, but I have recently been thinking about maybe signing up for a Bachelors Program with University of Pheonix Online. I have a child and it would just be more convenient. Do employers look down on schools like these? I just want to cover my butt! Thanks!

    • ANSWER:
I disagree that University of Phoenix is a diploma mill. One look at their tuition prices will indicate it is more expensive than most community colleges.

many of my colleagues have taken classes through University of Phoenix and the organization offers both on-line and physical classes.

      http://www.phoenix.edu/campus_locations/campus_locations.aspx

I would suggest you see if what they offer meets your educational, time, and monetary needs and make an informed decision from there.

  9. QUESTION:
What is the best online school for getting a bachelors degree?
The criteria I use is ...
Will I walk away with usable knowledge?
What is the realistic time commitment?
What do future employers think of the school?

    • ANSWER:
There are tons of traditional schools, colleges, and universities offering full programs online. Check out your state colleges to see what they have. This site has a listing of schools offering online degrees by state. http://www.distancelearningalliance.com

The key is to make sure the college/university is accredited. I have three basic recommendations for everyone looking into online/distance education. They all have to do with exploring; after all, you have to defend your assets.

      1. Make certain that you have triple checked their accreditation. First, they tell you what it is, then you go to that accrediting body’s website (not through the link provided by the school), and thirdly you would visit the department of education to see what they have to say. Do your diligent research into the institutions once you have narrowed down to a couple. You can look at the Better Business Bureau for more information on the college.

      2. You must have extreme self motivation and be able to teach yourself per say. This means that you will not have someone telling you verbally, so it is up to you to get the information from the course room, text, and other resources. The best way to look at it is like a guided independent study course.

      3. Review your goals, personal and professional. Make sure that the school that you are going to offers the programs that match your goals. Do not settle. There are many programs that are similar, but you have to make the ultimate decision. Do not let it be based on finances and length of program, but the fact that when you are finished or near finished you will be able to assume your proper place in the career field sought.

There are many traditional universities offering degrees that can be earned through online methods. Distance Learning Alliance has a list of these traditional online schools. Look at that if you are truly concerned with the name of the school. Good luck on your search!

  10. QUESTION:
What FULLY ACCREDITED schools offer junior and senior level courses online for a bachelors degree?
    I live in Texas

    • ANSWER:
      Brigham Young University - http://ce.byu.edu/is/site/courses/select.cfm?type=univ

      Louisiana State University - http://is.lsu.edu/courselist.asp?nid=102&Level=CO&Online=0

These two don't have a semester enrollment period so you can start anytime. The costs are very competitive.

If you're looking for a degree completion plan for those who already have an associates - go to google and search for "University of" [Yourstate] "distance learning" and you're apt to find a good one in your state. Just about every college in the US teaches online these days, it's pretty common. Pick a school and see what they're offering.

For example: University of Texas is very well known in distance learning circles as a provider of online degree completion. http://www.telecampus.utsystem.edu/catalog/programs.aspx

You could as easily look out of your state though - that's the beauty of online learning. You've got choices like UMass, Florida, UC (several campuses), CSU, etc... way more choices than those "as seen on TV" online colleges.

  11. QUESTION:
Is it possible to get accepted to a good graduate school program with an online Bachelors Degree?
I was forced to quit college due to financial contraint some years ago. I am now 29 and I have made enough money to afford to go to school. Since I own a small company, I cannot just take off for four years so I am considering obtaining my degree online. I am also looking to get into a good (top 50) graduate school to further my education. I understand there will obviously be some differences, but at the same time, I know that graduate schools often look more at the test scores than the name of college you went to. Will an online degree be a great hinderance in getting into a good graduate school?

On another note, does anyone recommend a good leading online degree program aside from the major universities?

    Thank you!
After taking the advice, i contacted one of the schools around the new England area. Do schools in different region have different organization where they receive the accreditation? The school I have contacted for example are accredited by the "New England Association of Schools and Colleges". Do accreditations differ depending on the organization or are they pretty much considered the same? I did a research online but it is so complex and I could not find a straight answer. Thanks a lot for your help.!

    • ANSWER:
I agree with everything N.M. said, and he said it better than I could have. This site has some good info on regionally accredited online bachelors degree programs and some colleges for you to consider.
      http://www.ecollegefinder.org/online-bachelor-degree-programs.aspx
I would definitely recommend contacting a number of schools to find the best fit for you and your needs. I would be sure to ask about tuition, schedule requirements and professor interaction which is very important for grad school recommendations as N.M. highlighted. Good luck!

  12. QUESTION:
Are there any Parapsychology Bachelor Degree programs offered online?
I am interested in perusing another Bachelors degree in Parapsychology. I want to obtain the Bachelors online and finish up for a doctorate with it on campus after. Does anyone know of an online school offering a Bachelors program in Parapsychology...? A link would be great too!

    • ANSWER:
Not from any accredited colleges or universities.
Franklin Pierce University (fully accredited) offers a minor in parapsychology with a major in psychology at the Bachelors level.
Doctorates in parapsychology are not offered (from accredited universities) in the U.S. except possibly by special arrangement with schools like University of California, Berkley that are know for designing and awarding unusual degrees (one in magic).

Also, most people working in parapsychology do not have degrees in parapsychology. They usually hold doctorates in a conventional science (physics, medicine, psychology, anthropology, engineering, etc.). They usually do their dissertation on a parapsychology subject.

  17. QUESTION:
Do employers in the IT field look down upon online bachelors degrees?
I'm currently taking online courses at a regionally accredited online school for my BS in Information Security. Do IT employers look down upon online degrees when compared to a traditional degree? I will also have additional certificates, network +, security+, cisco....Will an employer just throw my resume in the trash, and employ someone with a traditional degree?

    • ANSWER:
Most employers honestly won't know the difference as they're probably not going to ask you in an interview whether your degree is online or not. Having A degree is important, whether you got it online or off, but what you need to do, like mentioned by others who answered, is make sure you have the experience and skills to back up whatever degree you have.

Whatever job you might look for, an online degree won't slow you down even if someone DOES ask.

  18. QUESTION:
Accredited Online Psychology Schools, are they the way to go for a Bachelor's Degree?
I've been in and out of college for a few years, and I get stressed out and have anxiety problems being around a lot of people in a class room environment. When I was college, I always got decent and good grades, but just had some social anxiety. I'm going to a psychologist right now who is helping me. A couple of the programs in the medical field I have been in were to stressful, and I don't like the fact that I would have to operate on people. I'm interested in psychology and how our minds work and made an A in a general psychology course on campus, and thought it was interesting. My mom got a Bachelors degree in Psychology. But, no matter how hard I try to go to school, I don't have the drive and focus to sit during a class room with a bunch of people because I get so nervous, so that is why I thought about getting an online degree in psychology? I know psychology deals with face to face interactions, so most companies might look down upon an online degree, but I'm getting too old and need a degree, and would just rather do online course work. I like helping people out, and usually when your a psychologist sometimes your only helping out one person, and I'm better in small groups than attending a class with a bunch of students. All this anxiety, and add, having trouble focusing in a classroom setting makes it hard for me to even finish any programs. I'm pretty smart, just would rather learn in an online environment, so I need to know a couple of the best accredited online schools that offer the best online learning experience? Any information would be helpful, so I can spend a lot less time on site at a regular campus. Thanks. I've look at Argosy University's website, but don't know if they are accredited or not?

    • ANSWER:
I can't advise you on which online college program in psychology would be good for you. But, I do wish to caution you about those online programs that are online only and do not have a real, physical campus. Also, be cautious in regards to any college's promises about being hired in your area of study and in regards to loans for financial aid, if needed.

To help you find an online / mostly online psychology course of study, you may wish to use the service available through the website for the highly respected magazine U.S. News and World Report:
Accredited Online Bachelor Degree Programs & Courses
      http://www.usnewsuniversitydirectory.com/bachelors.aspx

Once you are at that web page, just
      Select Psychology as the Subject
Make sure the button for Online courses is marked
Then, click on the Search button

You will still then need to research the colleges offering online Psychology programs and bachelor's degrees to find out how reputable they are and if they also have a real, physical campus. To research the colleges, obtain and go to each college's website. Plus, look at one or more of the annual college ranking publications (probably available at your local public library):
U.S. News & World Report's annual Best Colleges
      Princeton Review's Best Colleges

  19. QUESTION:
Reccomendations for an online Bachelors degree?
I am currently a student of the American College of Technology. I signed a contract back in '09 with the promise of a bachelors degree. This school still doesn't have the program to obtain such a degree, and that leaves me in search of a new college. As it stands at this moment, I am in need of an online bachelors degree program. I am seeking the best and most trustworthy option for obtaining an online bachelors degree in the shortest amount of time. I've heard of college's that offer a bachelors degree in as short of time as one year. Please also help me in fin finding out the best type of business degree to become a most desired procurement agent. I formally worked at Bell Helicopter as a jr. buyer, but I was dismissed because I didn't have a degree. I am not interested in the Pheniox University offerings either. Please help me!! Thanks, Jen

    • ANSWER:
I am sorry to hear about that luck, I would hope the American College of Technology will be helping to pay for it!

Getting a bachelors degree is becoming more and more popular to be taken completely online. With today's society moving at such a fast pace, people want to be able to be as inconvenienced as possible, especially through earning an education. One recommendation is to look into online colleges that offer both on campus and online courses. If a university is accredited for ground campus based degrees, then obtaining an online degree from the same institution gives the most benefit. Colleges like the University of Phoenix are cool and all, however the authority and quality of the degree varies and can be looked down upon by employers so its good they don't interest you.

One of the best colleges I have seen and heard of that offer fully online courses and successful job placement would be Post University. You can see both their online undergraduate/bachelors degrees here: http://www.post.edu/online/programs.shtml Give it a look and see what you think. Hopefully you will enjoy the information and it helps you make decisions based on your future. Best of luck to you!

      http://www.independence.edu/healthcare/bachelors/health-services-management

You can earn this degree in a little over three years. Accelerated degree programs are great to hasten the process of graduation, but you should know that the coursework of such programs will be quite intensive and you may end up getting fewer breaks.

Your options are many and include the likes of UMass, SUNY, Florida State, U Florida, CalState, etc... There's an online degree of some sort being offered at almost every college in the US.

Louisiana State has accounting online and they are priced very nicely. Another option might be one of "the big three" where you could do you coursework online or classroom or by exam at any school and then transfer the credit to meet the degree requirements.

      Excelsior College http://www.excelsior.edu
      Thomas Edison State College http://www.tesc.edu
      Charter Oak State College http://www.cosc.edu

Your options are far greater than those heavily advertised online schools you see on TV - your options probably include the state U where you live.

  28. QUESTION:
How much do the online schools charge to be RN with a Bachelors degree?
I want to encourage my wife, but I don't want to get her hopes up if we can't afford it until later. I don't want a bunch of marketing phone calls either, so I don't want to give out our information on line. Our credit isn't very good. I messed up paying a student loan so, I doubt if we can get a loan for school. Can anybody give me an idea what those people charge?
    She's already an RN.

    • ANSWER:
It's not that you have to worry about "online schools" but a lot of universities offer classes online. Check out your local universities and they will let you know their cost of attendance. Also, have her look into her human resources department. A lot of hospitals will offer tution reimbursement with no contractural agreement required. I have noticed many hospitals are encouraging BSN/MSN for magnet status.

  29. QUESTION:
I want to go back to school but I work during the day. Is there a local school that has degree night programs?
I just helped put my husband through school at ITT Tech. I don't want a technical degree, just to finish my associates or bachelors at a local school online or at night. I have some college credits but not enough to qualify for some of the online bachelors degrees that I have seen. What are my options? Work part time and go to school part time or nothing?

    • ANSWER:
You can always work full-time and take a class or two a semester...all colleges and universities usually have night classes...I personally prefer night classes....if you want to go to school then you need to dedicate yourself to it!
      Good Luck!

  31. QUESTION:
can a student out of high school get a bachelor's degree online?
i don't mean from a for-profit institution such as devry, itt tech, the university of phoenix, or walden. i mean from a prestigious university. i know the university of florida, boston university, and a few others offer bachelor's degrees online, but as far as i understood from their websites, you need to have a considerable amount of college credits already to get a bachelors degree from these schools online. so, are there any universities that i can get a bachelor's degree straight out of high school, with only the credits i earned from three ap tests. i have a 3.9 cumulative gpa and got a 2080 on my sat, so im talking a fully legitimate bachelor's degree. is this possible?

    • ANSWER:
Yes. Look first at your state university for the lowest cost.

If it does not offer your major online, consider the University College of the University of Maryland.

  32. QUESTION:
Is a Life Experience Bachelors Degree good?
I see these online schools offering college degrees based on work experience and current knowledge. I have been told that I qualify for the Bachelors. Are these degrees legit, and most important can I use this Bachelors degree to become an officer in the Military, Air Force or Army?

    • ANSWER:
Those degrees are as valuable as the paper they are printed on. The entities who offer them are called "degree mills" and are not legit at all. Check their accreditation. Officer training in the Armed Forces is provided through the Federal service academies (Military, Naval, Air Force, and Coast Guard); the Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC) program offered at many colleges and universities; Officer Candidate School (OCS) or Officer Training School (OTS); the National Guard (State Officer Candidate School programs); the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences; and other programs. All are highly selective and are good options for those wishing to make the military a career. Some are directly appointed. People interested in obtaining training through the Federal service academies must be unmarried and without dependants to enter and graduate, while those seeking training through OCS, OTS, or ROTC need not be single. College graduates can earn a commission in the Armed Forces through OCS (Officer Candidate School) or OTS (Officer Training School) programs in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, and National Guard. These programs consist of several weeks of intensive academic, physical, and leadership training.

  33. QUESTION:
I am trying to do an online college program in geography so I can get my bachelor's degree. Does anyone know?
of any colleges that offer an online program like that? I am tired of searching and searching online for schools that offer online bachelor's degree programs. Cause then after I complete the degree I want to pursue a furthering of the degree by doing Geographic Information Systems. If anyone has any definite answers let me know. Thanks.

    • ANSWER:
I don't believe any fully online programs offer this program. You are

going to have to go to a traditional college that offers online courses.

Most traditional colleges offers online courses and you never have to

attend the college until graduation day. Have you ever thought about

about going abroad (cruise ship) for school?

  34. QUESTION:
I am looking into getting my bachelors degree online but can't decide which school is best?
I'm a new mom and want to get back into my education. A traditional college will not work for me because I also want to raise my child myself and not put him in a day care. I've been trying to do some research on different online colleges but everything I read is so 50/50. for everyone that hates the school, someone loves it. I'm just hoping to get some input! Any would great, thanks ! :)

    • ANSWER:
You will get the best education for the least amount of money at online classes offered by your local community college or state university.

Stay away from the for-profit proprietary universities, most of which advertise heavily. They charge way too much for inferior instruction and many other universities and employers do not respect their credits or degrees.

  35. QUESTION:
Can you teach in Louisiana with a Bachelors from an Online University?
I have my Associates in Elementary Education from University of Phoenix and I am thinking about going back and getting my bachelors online. I am not able to attend a campus University right now and want to get a head start on my bachelors degree so I can teach. What online schools does Louisiana recognize? Has anyone taught in Louisiana with a Online degree? I am thinking about Grand Canyon University, and major in Elementary Education with a minor in Special Education or Math. Which schools do you suggest and why? And I don't want to hear about people putting down the online schooling.. it is really hard and very educational. Have learned a lot from it and it is accredited. Just want to know what online schools are better for a teaching degree? Thanks!!

    • ANSWER:
PLEASE don't go to an online school. They usually are just diploma mills. No one really takes them seriously. You're going to have to go out "in the real world" for work anyway, so you might as well start now by going to a brick and mortar school. You'll be more successful, I promise.

  36. QUESTION:
what is the absolute quickest amount of time it takes to get an "online bachelors degree?"?
considering you take a reasonable amount of credits per semester.

Furthermore, what is the best school to do this through thats not way too expensive?

and can you get financial aid or scholarships with this?

    Thank for your help

    • ANSWER:
A BA from a regionally accredited school (that is a key concept, as the regional accrediting agencies are the ones that accredit real colleges) is generally standardized at 120 semester hours, or the equivalent. There are many non-accredited schools, and many many of these are on line. So count on taking that many hours - or about 40 classes.

On-line programs through regular colleges (state schools and community colleges) will cost the same as going to campus, and through for-profit colleges will cost a lot more.

Financial aid and scholarships are typically available if you go to an accredited college.

Education has become a regulated commodity - and there are no legal cheap and easy substitutes, no discount stores, and no sales. Sorry.

  37. QUESTION:
Can I get a Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering online?
My work schedule doesn't allow for a school schedule. So I'd like to get a degree online. I don't really care where the college is out of, just that I can do it online.

    • ANSWER:
Surprisingly, there is an ABET-accredited degree in Civil Engineering, offered by the University of North Dakota.

  38. QUESTION:
What are some good online schools for gaining a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology?

    • ANSWER:
I attend the University of Maryland online. I love them. They are very organized and you are responsible for your own work (unlike Univ. of Pheonix whom demands that everything is worked on as a group). Check them out. There are some residency requirements, or helps if you have a military connection. Good luck to you.

  39. QUESTION:
Good online colleges for bachelors degree?
All online colleges I have looked at either require you to have some experience in your major of choice or the schools themselves are scams. I would like to get my degree in IT or HR, but can't find a college that doesn't expect me to be previously experienced. ANY recommendations would be appreciated!

    • ANSWER:
You'll want to avoid most of the "as seen on TV" online schools since their reputation isn't so hot.

HR programs require experience because HR isn't an entry-level career. HR managers are also increasingly not solely coming up from the workforce, they're coming from graduate school.

For IT, I can suggest two decently respected wholly online schools:

      Western Governor's University ( http://www.wgu.edu )
      Excelsior College ( http://www.excelsior.edu )

Neither will be the easy route to the degree and WGU is considerably less expensive than Excelsior.

You might also want to take a look at the offerings of the many state universities that now offer their degrees wholly online. Especially if you happen to live in a state that has that option for you. http://stateuonline.blogspot.com/ is a link-file of many of the consolidated state system online offerings.

  40. QUESTION:
What is the best online school for a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Enginnering?
Looking for regionally accredited schools, preferably a school that is also has a brick and mortar component as well. No diploma mills or online only schools that are solely in it for the profit (like Phoenix).

    • ANSWER:
There is only one ABET-accredited online degree in Electrical Engineering in the USA - University of North Dakota.

Two credible TAC/ABET-accredited online degrees in Electronics Engineering Technology are offered by Excelsior College and DeVry.

      ADDED
Penn Foster College , Westwood College , ECPI College of Technology are all worthless and do not offer real Electrical Engineering degrees.

  41. QUESTION:
Has anyone ever got a degree from an online school. I need some info about them.?
I was thinking about trying for a bachelors degree online (i already have an assoc. degree) because I have a 6 yr old and am pregnant with my 2nd which is due in Jan. I am very eager to get back in school though. Will I ever have to go to the school? Is it more difficult? Does it take longer than normal? What are some of your pros and cons and how did you feel about it?

    • ANSWER:
I am currently ABD at Capella University finishing my dissertation work within the next few months. The work load was fair and challenging. It requires time management skills, discipline and determination. I am currently in leadership at a local college, so I know that my degree has helped in the career path.

You should market yourself and not the degree or university. There are many traditional universities offering degrees that can be earned through online methods. Look at that if you are truly concerned with the name of the school. Good luck on your search!

  42. QUESTION:
What is the best online school for a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science?
Looking for regionally accredited schools, preferably a school that is also has a brick and mortar component as well. No diploma mills or online only schools that are solely in it for the profit (like Phoenix).

    • ANSWER:
I'm not sure what the other guy is talking about. ABET is not important for a computer science degree, nor do most employers even know what it stands for. ABET is far more important for an engineering degree.

Look through Peterson's guide for schools that offer an online bachelors in CompSci. There are several.

  43. QUESTION:

  44. QUESTION:
what type of undergraduate degree to get into law school?
I am 38 yrs old.No college.I want to get a Bachelors Degree and then apply for an ABA approved Law School.
Would an online Bachelors Degree be sufficient educational wise?
Is there a specific course of study that would be best suited? Will an ABA Law School accept a 3 year Bachelor Degree or must it be a four year degree?
    Any advice?
    Thanks!!

    • ANSWER:
ABA approved law schools will want you to have gone to a reputable, regionally accredited bachelors degree college. They'd also strongly prefer you did it in person, rather than online. But if you must do it online, make sure it's a reputable college that is regionally accredited. So avoid schools like Kaplan or Strayer (not regionally accredited) and U of Phoenix (not reputable). Instead, do the online degree from UMass Amherst, Northeastern, BU, U Maryland, Penn State, U Florida, or another reputable "offline" university.

So long as the bachelors degree is considered the equivalent to a US bachelors degree, you can finish it in four years or three, doesn't matter. The thing is that some foreign three year bachelors degrees are NOT considered equivalent to a US bachelors degree, while others are. You need to be sure.

But if you're doing the bachelors from a good US university, and the degree takes you three years instead of four, that's okay.

If you're interested, there are accelerated degree programs specifically for adults that allow you to complete your bachelors more quickly. These are in person programs, from reputable unis like Fordham. Maybe a uni in your area offers similar?

  45. QUESTION:
Should I take a second bachelors degree from a good school and just disregards my online degree?
I am a social worker by profession but got burnt out and was seeking an alternative career. I went to Devry to get my Master's Degree in Accounting. I somehow cannot get any good interview and feel that I do not possessed the proper skills to get into the accounting workforce. Is it a good idea to go back to traditional school for accounting (UC-Davis accepts 2nd bachelors degree) or just keep trying and pray to god that employers do not mock and just notice my accounting devry degree?

    • ANSWER:
Don't be silly! Your online degree weighs the same as if you were to go to a campus. I read an article last night that proves that 79% of HR professional say they have hired an online graduate in the past year!

  46. QUESTION:
What are some good, accredited schools that are all or almost all online, where I can get my Bachelor's Degree
I have been led to dead ends by the local community colleges (one which I am an alumni) when I ask where I can get this degree. I was wanting a Bachelor's Degree in teaching. But I want to do it all or almost all of it online, in my spare/free time. I have 2 soon to be 3 children and am not able to go to classes at all. I would like to start working on getting my degree done, so when they go to school, I can go to work. I want the school to be accredited so I can actually use the degree.. and so I am not wasting my time. I currently have an Associates in Biological Science, Teaching, and just need the 2 more years for my Bachelors. Thank you!

    • ANSWER:
Sorry to inform you, but there are no "good accredited" online schools to get your bachelors. Most online schools (including University of Phoenix) are accredited by some bogus committee that they probably made up. No four year University will recognize your bachelors degree from an onlline school, thus wasting your time and money. Some people would disagree with this, but if they have a degree from an online/tech school, ask them to further their education (Masters) at a (real) University and they will be rejected.
I would use an online course as a last resort. Look into State schools, which offer accelerated courses.
      Best of luck.

  47. QUESTION:
Online Bachelor's degrees and then law school?
I am currently going to a community college, but am not sure about where to go for my bachelors. I am thinking of doing an online degree, however, I would like to go to law school when i'm done with the Bachelor's degree. Would me having a B.A/B.S from an online school hinder my chances of getting into law school? I'm not looking to get into Harvard or anything, just Rutgers in NJ. Thanks!

    • ANSWER:
If you are interested in online courses, you need to go to an accredited university. There shouldn't be any reason for Rutgers to reject your online course work if it is done at a regular university or college. I know from experience because I am taking courses online in a bachelors/masters program at the University of North Texas and I have taken online courses at the local community college.

Also, the belief that online degrees are for the lazy is actually a big misconception. Getting an online degree requires a lot of self-discipline, and in most cases is actually harder than a regular, on-campus degree. The workload is higher and often the content of most online courses is harder and more exhaustive.

Here's another university to consider up near your neck of the woods: MIT offers a far more comprehensive selection of free online courses than other universities — nearly its entire undergraduate and graduate curriculum. Downloading materials takes minutes. A newsletter highlights new offerings, from Quantum Physics to American Women Authors.

  48. QUESTION:
Bachelors Degree. Which one is better?
Hi! So, I decided I wanted to go back to school and get my bachelors degree! I have an Associates degree in "Office Administration". As, I was looking into degrees, I notice that this school has an online bachelors degree. So im stuck between Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication and Culture, OR Bachelor of Science degree in Business. People told me that it doesn't matter where you get your BA from when your looking for a job. Also they have said that jobs "eventually when they get better" doesnt really look into where you get your bachelors from. As long as you have one, then its ok!? I was thinking more-so in the Human Resource field? Basically like an office environment where they have opportunitys to grow. Please let me know which degree will be better suited for me! Thank you.

    • ANSWER:
well, nowdays degree arent important one

better choose either one...after completing u can go for P.G MBA in Hr..
MBA graduates are always welcomed by big companies even if ur fresher..

  49. QUESTION:
    Online Bachelors Construction Degree?
I am working towards a BS degree in construction engineering technology through distance learning (online) through the University of Southern Mississippi. The degree is ACCE and ABET accredited. I have a construction and architectural drafting background. How do employers view these degrees if they are from REAL universities and not from cheesy schools like ITT Tech or U of Phoenix? Is this a good path for me since I already have hands on experience or should I consider attending a school on campus???

    • ANSWER:
You made a good choice. USM has a good program with good chances of finding work after completing your degree. Getting your degree online though has a few more challenges though. Companies will typically make campus recruiting visits once or twice a year to interview for permanent and co-op positions. You may not hear of these when taking online classes. If you are not too far from Hattiesburg, I would try to visit a couple of times a year to meet the department head and instructors so that they will think of you when recruiters visit.

  50. QUESTION:
    Online schools?
I have a few questions about online schools and distance learning programs. I am an adult who completed only 3 years of college and am looking to transfer my credits and complete my Bachelor’s online.

    1. Are their degrees accepted just as any other degrees are accepted when it comes to employment? They seem rather easy to get accepted to so are they frowned upon in any way?

    2. Would my degree be accepted at other Universities if I were to apply for a Graduate program?

    3. What are the most reputable online colleges?

Sorry for all of the questions! I'd especiallylove to hear from someone who's had experience with an online school or a distance learning program.

    • ANSWER:
      1. Are their degrees accepted just as any other degrees are accepted when it comes to employment? They seem rather easy to get accepted to so are they frowned upon in any way?

No, generally speaking they are not yet as well accepted. However, some are better accepted than others and some are better accepted than some traditional schools. It's all about the reputation of the college that awarded the degree and not whether it was online or not. If you get a degree online from U Mass. - it says nowhere that your classes were online. They aren't all easy to get accepted to. Apply for the Master's in International Human Rights Law at Oxford (which they teach completely online) and see if it's easy to get accepted. ;-) Many are open admission though - this is because of the logistics of distance ed and not about quality of program. Some though - they'll take anyone with a credit card. Those aren't the schools you want (online or traditional).

      2. Would my degree be accepted at other Universities if I were to apply for a Graduate program?

It depends on where you get the degree. If you get your degree from a top ranked college then you have a degree from a top ranked college. If you get the degree from one of the bottom feeders, you have a pretty low quality degree. Grad schools know who is who.

      3. What are the most reputable online colleges?

They are the same as the most respected traditional colleges. Harvard, Berkeley, Stanford, UMass, Florida State, Duke, UNC, UCLA, etc.... all teach online. Your choices are very many. Almost every college in the USA now teaches online. University of YourState probably offers a few degrees online; it's not 1981 any longer. ☺

Thanks for expressing your ideas. I’d also like to state that video games have been ever before evolving. Modern technology and inventions have served create reasonable and interactive games. These kind of entertainment games were not actually sensible when the real concept was first being experimented with. Just like other styles of technological know-how, video games also have had to progress by means of many generations. This itself is testimony towards the fast growth of video games.
