Solution To Nursing Shortage The Health Resources and Services Administration reported that 30 states currently have shortages of registered nurses (RNs). And it is expected to worsen over the next two decades, with 44 states expected to have RN shortages by the year 2020. Furthermore, the demand for nurses in 2012 is expected to be 2.9 million, up from the 2.3 million that were needed in 2003.

There is no more appropriate time to pursue a career in nursing in the United States. The total job openings, including new jobs and replacing nurses who no longer are practicing, will be more than 1.1 million from 2002 to 2012.

The main reasons for the high demand of nurses in this country include an 18 percent growth in population, an aging, health-obsessed baby boomer population, and extended life spans. The report released in May of 2001 by the Nursing Institute at the University of Illinois College of Nursing showed that the ratio of potential caregivers to the people most likely to need care, the elderly population, will decrease by 40 percent between 2010 and 2030.

The prevailing problem is supply and demand. Demand for nurses will grow by 40 percent by the year 2020, while the supply of nurses will increase by only 6 percent over the same period. The aging population of nurses in this country is another factor. The median age of nurses continues to increase, and a large wave of retirements is unavoidable.

President Bush signed in August of 2002 the Nursing Reinvestment Act of 2002 to address the problem of our nation's nursing shortage. It was intended to promote people to enter and remain in nursing careers, thus helping to lighten the growing nursing shortage. The law establishes scholarships, loan repayments, public service announcements, retention grants, career ladders, geriatric training grants and loan cancellation for nursing faculty. Funding for these programs is provided through 2007 by law.

One college in particular should offer both undergraduate and graduate degrees to motivate individuals interested in the nursing/healthcare arena so as to address the growing needs of today's population. Founded in 1976, University of Phoenix is one of the original accredited universities to offer online college education with complete degree programs by use of the Internet. It is the nation's largest accredited university, with over 17,000 highly qualified instructors, 170 campuses and Internet delivery worldwide.

University of Phoenix offers two Nursing/Health Care undergraduate degrees: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (RN license required) and Bachelor of Science in Health Care Services (BCHCS). The graduate degrees in the same field are: Master of Science in Nursing (RN license required), Master of Science in Nursing/Family Nurse Practitioner (RN license required) and Master of Science in Nursing/MBA/Health Care Management (RN license required).

"The nursing shortage in this country is a major problem, but there are some pluses to the dilemma," said Barbara Sanner, the Arizona Marketing Manager for University of Phoenix. "One of the benefits to the shortage is that you can virtually write your own ticket, meaning that you can work anywhere in the country, in any environment and the job pays well." Typically, starting registered nurses earn salaries in the ,000 plus range.

Accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) since 1989, University of Phoenix is currently seeking nursing program accreditation by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). It is changing its accreditation from NLNAC to CCNE because most baccalaureate and higher degree programs in nursing are now accredited by CCNE. Currently in the U.S., about 70 percent of baccalaureate nursing programs and 79 percent of master's nursing programs are accredited by CCNE.

The BSN program is designed to develop the professional knowledge and skills of working RNs. One must have a minimum of 30 nursing credits to become eligible for this program. However, a valid RN license satisfies this requirement. There are 13 courses offered in this program, and three of them have a clinical component. Most of the courses are online, but students have the opportunity to do some of the class work in-person in residency programs, for example. Students also have several opportunities to interact with fellow students.

The curriculum consists of biological, physical and social sciences, which contribute to the science of nursing and focus on the development of the nurse's role as caregiver, teacher and manager of care. All three of the clinical components require spending 20-45 hours of practicum in five weeks.

"One of the key areas that distinguish us from the others is that you can take classes at night," Sanner said. "That is a big plus for nurses, and our local campuses try to fit courses that work for the tough schedule demands that nurses have."

"We also have a strong foundation in the bio and physical sciences," Sanner added. "There is probably a perception in the market place that we don't have it, but that is not true. We're also not just offering courses strictly for nurses going into hospital care. We have courses that prepare you to become nurse supervisors, managers of small-care facilities, geriatric wards, etc. We offer a broad basis for different kinds of nursing opportunities, not just hospital nurses."

Intended to provide nurses with the blend of advanced nursing and business management skills necessary to manage today's health care delivery systems, the MBA/HCM curriculum emphasizes the identification, analysis and solution of multifaceted management problems that require technical understanding and balanced decision making. If you are the type of person who is driven by a desire to help people and to make a difference in people's lives, pursing a career in nursing might be the perfect career option. Enrolling in a nursing program such as University of Phoenix's gives students the opportunity to aid people and make a very good living while helping to eliminate this country's alarming shortage in nurses. 3. QUESTION:
What online schools offer an accredited Bachelor Degree in Hospitality and Tourism Management?
I am looking for a FULL (not just a completion program because I have no transfer credits) Bachelors Degree in Hospitality and Tourism Management at an online school. It needs to be accredited and preferably not very expensive. I'm having some trouble finding many online schools that even offer this degree. Can anyone provide me with some helpful suggestions?

    • ANSWER:
I just did a web search and came up with a whole page of schools that offer this degree:

      http://www.elearners.com/online-degrees/hotel-and-hospitality-management.htm

Online schools are not cheap. For the most part, they are private, and charge the same rates as a traditional private school. However, almost all colleges offer some types of Distance Learning or Extension Degree programs online now. A couple that were listed on this site were state schools--Univ. of Mass., and Univ. of Delaware. Contact your state college or university or look on their website and see what they have to offer. Can't hurt to look.

  9. QUESTION:
Any Good Rigorous Accredited Online Colleges?
I travel a lot and I was looking for a rigorous regionally accredited online bachelors degree program in political science or public
administration but lately the colleges I've been finding colleges online seems like a 3rd grader could do blind folded and I plan attend to transfer to a upper scale on campus college for after a year any advice ?

    • ANSWER:
The key is to make sure the college/university is accredited. I have three basic recommendations for everyone looking into online/distance education. They all have to do with exploring; after all, you have to defend your assets.

      1. Make certain that you have triple checked their accreditation. First, they tell you what it is, then you go to that accrediting body’s website (not through the link provided by the school), and thirdly you would visit the department of education to see what they have to say. Do your diligent research into the institutions once you have narrowed down to a couple. You can look at the Better Business Bureau for more information on the college.

      2. You must have extreme self motivation and be able to teach yourself per say. This means that you will not have someone telling you verbally, so it is up to you to get the information from the course room, text, and other resources. The best way to look at it is like a guided independent study course.

      3. Review your goals, personal and professional. Make sure that the school that you are going to offers the programs that match your goals. Do not settle. There are many programs that are similar, but you have to make the ultimate decision. Do not let it be based on finances and length of program, but the fact that when you are finished or near finished you will be able to assume your proper place in the career field sought.

You should market yourself and not the degree or university. There are many traditional universities offering degrees that can be earned through online methods. Distance Learning Alliance has a list of these traditional online schools. Look at that if you are truly concerned with the name of the school. Good luck on your search!

  10. QUESTION:
Accredited Online Psychology Schools, are they the way to go for a Bachelor's Degree?
I've been in and out of college for a few years, and I get stressed out and have anxiety problems being around a lot of people in a class room environment. When I was college, I always got decent and good grades, but just had some social anxiety. I'm going to a psychologist right now who is helping me. A couple of the programs in the medical field I have been in were to stressful, and I don't like the fact that I would have to operate on people. I'm interested in psychology and how our minds work and made an A in a general psychology course on campus, and thought it was interesting. My mom got a Bachelors degree in Psychology. But, no matter how hard I try to go to school, I don't have the drive and focus to sit during a class room with a bunch of people because I get so nervous, so that is why I thought about getting an online degree in psychology? I know psychology deals with face to face interactions, so most companies might look down upon an online degree, but I'm getting too old and need a degree, and would just rather do online course work. I like helping people out, and usually when your a psychologist sometimes your only helping out one person, and I'm better in small groups than attending a class with a bunch of students. All this anxiety, and add, having trouble focusing in a classroom setting makes it hard for me to even finish any programs. I'm pretty smart, just would rather learn in an online environment, so I need to know a couple of the best accredited online schools that offer the best online learning experience? Any information would be helpful, so I can spend a lot less time on site at a regular campus. Thanks. I've look at Argosy University's website, but don't know if they are accredited or not?

    • ANSWER:
I can't advise you on which online college program in psychology would be good for you. But, I do wish to caution you about those online programs that are online only and do not have a real, physical campus. Also, be cautious in regards to any college's promises about being hired in your area of study and in regards to loans for financial aid, if needed.

To help you find an online / mostly online psychology course of study, you may wish to use the service available through the website for the highly respected magazine U.S. News and World Report:
Accredited Online Bachelor Degree Programs & Courses
      http://www.usnewsuniversitydirectory.com/bachelors.aspx

Once you are at that web page, just
      Select Psychology as the Subject
Make sure the button for Online courses is marked
Then, click on the Search button

You will still then need to research the colleges offering online Psychology programs and bachelor's degrees to find out how reputable they are and if they also have a real, physical campus. To research the colleges, obtain and go to each college's website. Plus, look at one or more of the annual college ranking publications (probably available at your local public library):
U.S. News & World Report's annual Best Colleges
      Princeton Review's Best Colleges

  12. QUESTION:
Is an online degree from an established, accredited four year university a good idea?
I m considering enrolling to Washington State University's online bachelors degree in business administration program. I currently run my own small business plus hold down a part time job so I do not have the time to attend the university in person. Would an online degree from this state university be the same as a if i had attended in person?

    • ANSWER:
Definitely. I live north of Spokane, and am working on my MBA from Indiana University, and a dual Master's in Global Management from Thunderbird.

I hate WSU (I went to UW undergrad), but as long as they are AACSB accedited, it is worthwhile. However, you should check the rankings and try and get into the best school you can. IU is top tier (top 20 across the board, top 5 / top 10 in many disciplines), and Thunderbird is #1 in global business 10 years' running.

The key is AACSB certification. It ensures the school has the highest standards for academics, and that the online degree is just as good as the in-residence degree is.

WSU has that certification, so it is at least top 10% of business schools in the world. There are better, so find a fit for what you want to study, your budget, and your application.

I looked at every school on that list, compared it to all the rankings, and then went down the list until one had an online program. Duke was the best Executive Ed, but it was 0,000+ and required me to be on campus several weeks a year. Neither fit me. IU requires one week a year; The IU/TBird dual is about three and a half weeks. One at IU, one in Beijing, China, and one and a half in Arizona.

Online degrees are no different than the in-residence degrees at AACSB schools. In fact, they have some advantages because you keep your job, you learn to manage your time alot more, and you work with teammates and classmates in a setting more like the business world - email, conference calls, and online collaborative meetings.

So, other than the WSU thing I was kidding about (mostly), I say go for it!

  13. QUESTION:

  14. QUESTION:
Employers: Is a degree from an accredited online university equal to that of a traditional university?
I want to get my teaching certificate. I already have a bachelors degree in sociology. No school around me offers just a 'teaching certificate', I would have to get a second bachelors degree that would take close to 2 years! I'm an adult with a mortgage, that just seems impossible. Are online degrees comparable?

    • ANSWER:
As long as the college (online or campus based) is regionally accredited, any degree you earn should be accepted by any potential employers or other academic institutions.
My best recommendation would be to contact a number of colleges to find the best fit for you and your needs (tuition, schedule, career opportunities, etc.). Too often people enroll in the first school they find rather than taking the time to find the best school for them. Taking that time now could save you a lot of time, money and frustration if you choose the wrong school.

  15. QUESTION:
what are some good, accredited online universities for bachelors degree?
I have my AA degree. Interested in going back to school to get bachelors degree in accounting. I have been out of school for about 11 years

    • ANSWER:
Your options are many and include the likes of UMass, SUNY, Florida State, U Florida, CalState, etc... There's an online degree of some sort being offered at almost every college in the US.

Louisiana State has accounting online and they are priced very nicely. Another option might be one of "the big three" where you could do you coursework online or classroom or by exam at any school and then transfer the credit to meet the degree requirements.

      Excelsior College http://www.excelsior.edu
      Thomas Edison State College http://www.tesc.edu
      Charter Oak State College http://www.cosc.edu

Your options are far greater than those heavily advertised online schools you see on TV - your options probably include the state U where you live.

  16. QUESTION:
Is a Bachelors degree of Science in Management from University of Phoenix Online accredited?
I am considering getting a Bachelors of Science in Management from University of Phoenix online, but I don't know if the degree will be accredited. Am I right in saying that even though the school is accredited, the degree may not be? And if the school is accredited, but the degree is not, will that hurt me in finding a job?

    • ANSWER:
University of Phoenix is regionally accredited. Your degree will be accredited as well.

Some degrees have professional accreditation as a plus for example business schools can have the plus of AACSB accreditation for their programs or teaching degrees accredited by NCATE.

However no degree will have professional accreditation if the institution does not have regional accreditation before.

In theory you should not have a problem with a regionally accredited degree however University of Phoenix has not a great reputation because of their unethical recruitment practices, expensive prices, low education quality and low paid facutly.

They were fined with .8 million dollars for unethical recruitment practices.

There are many good schools out there with a much better reputation, greater flexibility and much lower cost than University of Phoenix and of course fully accredited.

  19. QUESTION:
which US accredited online MBA program will allow me to begin now without a Bachelor's degree until Feb 2013?
I currently have 102 credits completed in my Bachelors Degree Program will be a senior in college at the start of the Spring 2012 semester. I just wanted to get a jump start on my graduate work, thanks for all the helpanswers!!!

    • ANSWER:
You won't find any. MBA programs prefer students with 2-3 years work experience after the first degree. Some accept students right out of college if they have good grades and a high GMAT score. Some MBA programs are designed specifically for new college graduates without work experience. But in those programs you don't get the benefit of learning from other students who have work experience. A lot of valuable learning takes place through class interaction. Also when you graduate your job offers will be about the same as a business undergraduate gets because you have no work experience, and you've been two years out of your undergraduate field so it's hard to get work in that area.

Explore the Official MBA Guide. It's a comprehensive free public service with more than 2,000 MBA programs listed worldwide. It allows you to search for programs by location (US, Europe, Far East, etc.), by concentration (finance, marketing, aviation management, health management, accounting, etc.), by type of program (full-time, distance learning, part-time, executive, and accelerated), and by listing your own criteria and preferences to get a list of universities that satisfy your needs. Schools report their accreditation status, tuition cost, number of students, class sizes, program length, and a lot of other data. Schools provide data on entrance requirements, program costs, program characteristics, joint degrees, and much more. You can use the Guide to contact schools of your choice, examine their data, visit their web site, and send them pre applications. You can see lists of top 40 schools ranked by starting salaries of graduates, GMAT scores, and other criteria.

  22. QUESTION:
Will Hong Kong accept a bachelor's degree from an accredited online college?

    • ANSWER:
You should further specify your question.

If it is really an accredited college (online or not) I believe the goverment officials would recognize the degree.

If you are talking about employers - well that depends on the employer.
If you are talking about continued education, it might depend on the university, generally I would expect yes though because you still would have to build one the knowledge you earned there, and if you fail noone cares, coz they still got your money. :)

    • ANSWER:
Sorry to inform you, but there are no "good accredited" online schools to get your bachelors. Most online schools (including University of Phoenix) are accredited by some bogus committee that they probably made up. No four year University will recognize your bachelors degree from an onlline school, thus wasting your time and money. Some people would disagree with this, but if they have a degree from an online/tech school, ask them to further their education (Masters) at a (real) University and they will be rejected.
I would use an online course as a last resort. Look into State schools, which offer accelerated courses.
      Best of luck.

  28. QUESTION:
Can anyone recommend an affordable yet accredited online degree in game design.?
I want to get a bachelors in game design but I cant find one that seems to be affordable an at the same time be accredited. I want the degree to be an online one because I don't want to pay for room and board. I want a degree that will really prepare me for a job in game design. I was thinking that 20,000 dollars or so would be an affordable cost of tuition.

    • ANSWER:
My best recommendation would be to contact a number of colleges to find the best fit for you and your needs (tuition, schedule, career opportunities, etc.). Too often people enroll in the first school they find rather than taking the time to find the best school for them. Taking that time now could save you a lot of time, money and frustration if you choose the wrong school.
This site has some good info on regionally accredited online bachelors degrees in game design and some colleges that offer them to help expand your search:
      http://www.ecollegefinder.org/online-bachelors-degree-in-game-design.aspx
I think you can enter your info on there for any colleges you are interested in and they will send you more info for free. Good Luck!

I WOULD LIKE TO START CLASSES IN JANUARY ONLINE.I NEED TO DO IT THIS WAY BECAUSE I HAVE A TODDLER AND I WORK FULL TIME. PLEASE GIVE ME SERIOUS ANSWERS

    • ANSWER:
I'm not sure about on-line universities, but keep in mind that getting a degree in elementary education requires a lot of observations and student teaching. You will be required to go to schools and observe teachers, work with small groups of students, and do your semester or year long student teaching internship. Those things cannot be completed on-line.

  34. QUESTION:
Is there an ACCREDITED online degree in Sociology available?
I am in my middle fifties. Back in my twenties, I took two BSc. degrees, one in Mechanical Engineering, the other in Geology. At the time, my thinking was something like: "Sociology! That's for people who can't handle a REAL science, or a REAL major!"

Now, thirty years later and semi-retired, I have become intrigued in recent years by the subject of sociology (developed along with my evolution into a Marxist) and regret not having studied sociology as a 'minor' or even pursuing it as a third Bachelor's degree.

I would like to pursue further study in sociology, and earn a BA in the subject. My movement is somewhat limited due to a major physical injury a few years ago that has confined me to a wheelchair. Are there any ACCREDITED colleges or universities offering a BA in Sociology that can be earned ENTIRELY online? Preferably, one that will allow me to work self-paced, building it around my work-schedule; and, not too expensive. Thanx!

    • ANSWER:
How about an online MBA, from Heriot Watt University — often regarded as the best available online ("external) MBA in the world? That will keep you busy studying something realistic...and avoid getting caught up in the bizarre, heavily-politicized, biased world of academic Sociology.

      ADDED
"I have to disagree with PE, usually he has good advice but he obviously has no idea what sociology is and is just regurgitating ignorant stereotypes"

Sister Sophia is apparently unaware of the internal debate in academic Sociology during the past twenty years or so between the "Empirical Sociologists" who want a recommitment to scientific methods and the "Public Sociologists" who want a clear commitment to social change. The Public Sociologists won, and therefore Sociology is no-longer taken seriously.

  35. QUESTION:
what are the three accredited online colleges or universities that offer a bachelor degree in computer informa

    • ANSWER:
Westwood Online, University of Phoenix Online, Devry Online, ITT Tech, Kaplan University, Regis University, Boston College Online, and Strayer University. This list is by no means exhaustive, but it's a decent start. It really depends on what discipline you're looking to learn. I go to Westwood College and have no complaints thus far. But word to the wise, it's takes a supreme amount of effort to stay focused in a distance learning program. Whichever Institution you choose should have a focus on supporting your education pursuits, regardless of whether you're a full time only student, working and full time student, or working and part-time student. Best of luck to you.

Is the University of Massachusetts - Lowell continuing education online BA degree accredited regionally? Good?
I might be interested in it, but I don't want one of those bogus "degree mill" degrees. I'm already in college at a four year school, but online is convenient for me. UML looked good, but I'm unsure if this degree is for real, and if employers would be able to tell if it is an "online degree". By the way the degree is for I.T. and it is listed as a bachelors degree on their site. thx.

    • ANSWER:
UMass-Lowell is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, which is a recognized regional accrediting body. All their programs, including online programs, are accredited by the regional accrediting body.

I want a bachelor Degree , in less money , quick as possible , but Accredited and Recognized , because i have plan for Masters in future. Thanks to all.

    • ANSWER:
There are some schools that have online programs that are accredited. However, none will allow you to get a degree based solely on life experience. If a school does offer a degree using life experience only, it is a sure sign of a diploma mill.

However, all is not lost. If you have experience, there are schools that will give SOME credit for work experience. There are also schools that will give credit for industry certifications. Additionally, many schools will give credit for CLEP and DSST exams. You can learn more about CLEP exams at http://http://www.collegeboard.com/student/testing/clep/about.html
You can learn more about DSST exams at http://www.getcollegecredit.com/

Accreditation is important for a degree. You must make certain that the school where you get your degree is accredited. You can check accreditation of a school at http://www.chea.org/search/search.asp

Finally, there is a forum where you might be able to find more information on obtaining your degree. http://forums.degreeinfo.com It is free to join and there are many people there who have obtained Bachelor's, Master's and higher degrees through online coursework and study.

      Good luck

    Online Bachelor's Degree Question?
If you have any experience with getting a degree online, I'd be interested in hearing it. I'm currently looking at that possibility, and am overwhelmed by the number of schools, and what they offer. I'd like a degree in Business Management.
What school did you use? Is it only online, or did you have to go to a bricks and mortar location for some things? Did you really learn as much as you would in a regular classroom? Would you recommend this track to someone else?
I am internet-savvy, work a full-time job, and have kids who need to be my focus. I need flexibility, an accredited, recognized degree, and the freedom to work at my own pace (usually quicker than the average).
Thanks in advance for your responses!

    Blessings,
    Kate

Does anyone know of a good online "home study" accredited college to earn a bachelor's degree at your own pace
I want to get a bachelor's in psychology/counseling, and I want to be able to do it at home at my own pace. I've taken classes through a college that were online, but I had to be online at certain times for "class chats" and stuff like that which I hate - I'm looking for a program that just requires me to do the work and send it in... and nothing else... no added mandatory "meetings" or anything else. It would also be financially helpful if anyone knows of a place in the state of Georgia so I could be eligible for the in-state scholarships. If you only have suggestions of places outside of Georgia, please tell me about them as well though! Thanks :)

      - Carnegie Mellon
      - Rensselaer Polytechnic
      - Worcester Polytechnic

  46. QUESTION:
Where can I get a bachelors degree completely online?
Okay, I'm now looking into being a librarian. You need a masters in library science and I've found plenty of ALA accredited online programs for this, but I need a bachelors degree first. All of the 'real' colleges with online bachelor degree programs I have been able to find are only bachelor completion programs which means I'd have to take 2 years of college somewhere else and then transfer. I really don't want to have to go through the hassle of trying to transfer my credits over and over again. Does anyone know of any programs, completely online, in which you can earn a bachelors degree from start to finish? 'Real' colleges please- I'd like to steer away from online universities with advertisements all over the internet, if at all possible because I don't know if I can trust them.

    • ANSWER:
You can check out here http://www.thedegreeexperts.com/online-degree.aspx for various associate, bachelors and master’s programs available online. They have also listed out name of the universities against each course where that particular course is available. You can trust the universities featured at this website as all are legitimate and accredited and are moreover well recognized in the job market.

Do you know of an ABET Accredited BSEM Online degree?
I am looking for an online univerity or college that is offering a BSEM (Bachelor of Science in Engineering Management) that is both ABET and regionally (NOT nationally) accredited. I doubt that one exists but I figured I would give it a shot. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in Advance!

    -Matt

    • ANSWER:
I've been hunting for an ABET online program for a long time, and the only one I've found is University of North Dakota. They have Electrical, Chemical, Civil and Mechanical Bachelor degrees. The out of state tuition is kind of high. They used to have a distance program that took care of prerequisites like Calc, english, etc... at a much cheaper price, and they then apply those credits to your program of choice. The only catch to all this is that the lab courses are condensed into one week, on campus labs. Everything but the labs online. Check them out at und.edu, distance engineering degree program

  49. QUESTION:
online ba degree: national vs regional cred really matter?
Does it really matter for a bachelors degree? A nationally accredited online college vs. a regionally accredited online college?

    • ANSWER:
using an example... Virginia College... even a Bachelor's Degree might as well not have taken there... because it is worthless... there are supposedly accredited... but look at the accrediting agency

businesses know this & are not as interested in hiring people with degrees from those schools as they are from applicants who went to credible schools

if they aren't accredited by the same agency as your state's public universities, then they simply aren't worth as much as a Bachelor's from the Public Uni

To answer your question... accreditation does matter

Well, most grdtuaaes’ jobs are not related to their majors, so you can be pretty much anything you want to be. Also, I am not sure how the Latino Communist will benefit from this degree, but I am pretty sure your community will benefit by having more college grdtuaaes and more teachers who are passionate about teaching kids.
