  2. QUESTION:
Is it a good idea to get your Bachelor's degree in Education online?
I'm a senior in high school and most likely I'll go to college to get my Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. Maybe in the future, I'll feel differently but I'm thinking of doing it online.

    • ANSWER:
I think that it really depends on the type of person. If you feel that you would thrive in an online learning environment rather than a tradition university, you should absolutely go for it. Advantages are definitely the flexibility and cost. However, I'm not sure how that works with student teaching and the like, so you should definitely fully research that aspect of it.

  3. QUESTION:
Which good American/European universities offer Bachelors degree in education online/ correspondence?
anybody doing online Bachelor ( education) degree?

American universities don't generally offer it. To get an education degree, you have to do things like practicums and student teaching, and that requires actually being at the university.

You could try taking a few of your general education courses online to get started and then register at a regular university to finish your degree.

How good is an online Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education?
My wife is wanting to pursue a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary education. However, because she has to work AND go to school at the same time, it makes sense to get a degree online. But, she's worried about the accreditation and "respectability" of getting an education degree online. In other words, she's worried about spending all the time getting a degree online then not being able to get a job with it.

I was wondering if anyone has any good (or bad) experiences in getting an Education degree online. Also, what online school did you use? Any help would be very much appreciated, thanks!
    We live in Kansas

    • ANSWER:
I see nothing wrong with taking a few courses on-line. However, I've heard that on-line classes can actually end up being more work than face-to-face classes. You have a lot more reading to do (e-mails, on-line chats, etc.)

The biggest problem I see with doing the entire program on-line is that most teacher education programs require several hours of "field experience," which involves actually spending time in classrooms, doing observations, and even teaching mini lessons.

She may want to investigate local colleges and see when their courses are offered. Some cater to students who are already working and offer courses in the evenings.

  8. QUESTION:
Where can I earn a Bachelor's degree in Education through an online school??
I am looking to find online degree in either elementary or secondary education. In particular, history. thanx.

    • ANSWER:
I believe Phoenix Online does. And I am pretty sure you would still do practicum work and student teaching. I just did my masters through Walden online and loved it. It was very convenient and I learned a lot. Online schools are really making their way up there these days!

  9. QUESTION:
    Music Education-Bachelors Degree online?
Is there a college which offers an online program to obtain a Bachelors Degree in Music Education?

    • ANSWER:
      No, not yet.

There are some programs out there with good teacher ed. online but nothing that would get you the K-12 music certificate.

It will probably become an option in the next couple years, Boston, East Carolina, U Hawaii Manoa, South Florida, Austin Peay have master's in MuEd online and Boston has their DMus in MuEd online.

You could do a Bachelor of Music via one of the assessment colleges (Excelsior, Thomas Edison State, or Charter Oak) and then do an alternate route to certification but getting the major classes online is a real challenge.

For now, undergrad MuEd is a head to campus degree. Good luck.

Add: How to do methods and applied online. You don't really do them "online" you do them via distance learning contract. You find a teacher locally who your college finds qualified and that teacher conducts your applied and reports to the college.

For the student teaching and internships it's the same deal. You make arrangements at a school locally and are supervised there. They report to your school.

  10. QUESTION:
    Bachelor's Degree in Education online.?
Currently, I have a serious dilemma I am facing. Very soon I will have my associate's degree and look to transfer to a 4 year university so that I can earn my bachelor's degree in education. I work full time as a teacher and I am seeking to gain my certification but, in my area the only university that offers a bachelor's degree (University of South Carolina Beaufort) offers all of their courses that I need in the morning when I have to be at work. There is no way I can afford to work part time or even worse, go without a job. Does anyone know of any provision that may be available to individuals that have worked in the classroom for sometime that can provide an easier route to teaching or of a reputable school that offers a bachelor's degree of education online?

University of Phoenix was an option but I have heard so much negativity about the school that now I am not sure.

Thanks in advance for all intelligent responses as anything else will be ignored.

I looked at the requirements and it looks very do-able for me. I just want to make sure it's not a waste of money. Does anyone know anything about this degree?

    • ANSWER:
If you are just trying to finish a degree and will get a salary bump up for finishing, I say finish the degree and get the BGE. A degree is a degree. At least you've finished. 17. QUESTION:
On Line Bachelor of education degree?
Any university (In US or Canada) offering online bachelor of education degree which is recognized by Ontario college of teachers?

    • ANSWER:
The Ontario College of Teachers requires all certified teachers to have completed at least 50 days of practicum experience in a classroom. In terms of the actual program requirements, no schools in Ontario offer an online degree. I do know that Medaille College in Buffalo has a program where students are only required to be in class two days a week, but there aren't any OCT recognized programs that can offer their courses online. A big part of teaching is collaboration and hands on work. You simply cannot be prepared for the profession by taking an exclusively or even primarily online program. I would also suggest that since finding teaching jobs in Ontario is already extremely difficult for all graduates you should try to go to an Ontario program. Ontario graduates have a better chance of finding employment than those who take their education programs in the States.

Here is a link to the statistics comparing Ontario graduates to US graduates: http://professionallyspeaking.oct.ca/publications/professionally_speaking/march_2010/features/transition.aspx

  18. QUESTION:
Online schools offering bachelor degrees in special education?
Im trying to find a school online offering special education, I have googled it and found many but I would like some personal opinions.. Thanks

    • ANSWER:
Glad you have already done some research.
Now you may realize that there is a long list of colleges offering a bachelor degree is special education. So what do you do about it?
There are three things you can do to cut down that list and make the best choice.
1-Check the accreditation of the colleges. If a college is not accredited, dont bother. Enrolling in an unaccredited college means wasting your money and time since the degree has no value and recognition. diploma/degree mills will lure you into join them by charging low fees and easy course content. Beware!
2- Do a background research on the faculty. Check their qualification and experience. A good faculty certainly offers a quality degree.
3- Ask students enrolled in those online colleges for their opinion. They could reveal what the college may be trying to hide.
Here are two universities that you may want to check out.
      * Walden University
      *George Washington University

  23. QUESTION:
What can I do with a Bachelor Degree in Early Childhood Education?
I am currently an online student and am hoping to receive my Bachelor degree this year. I am unsure of where to go with my future education. What can I do with just the degree? Should I get an associate or extra degree in another field to allow me to specialize in something else? Should I get a teacher license to work in public school? Montessori certified? Any recommendations- I want to be on top of this and be able to get a job. Thank you!

    • ANSWER:
Teaching is not just a "default". "Well, I don't know what I want to do, so I guess I will teach,"

Do you like children? Are you a good role model? Enjoy learning yourself? Have a firm foundation and understanding of science, history, social studies, geography, language and math, or have an interest in getting one? Do you have a firm foundation in child development, or want to get one? Do you want to impart knowledge? These are the questions you need to ask yourself, not other people.

Montessori is a philosophy of education. No one can tell you that you "should" be a Montessori teacher. You need to make sure that you agree with its philosophy before considering the training. Here is a website with answers to most of your questions on Montessori educational philosophy and certifications.

Has anyone had any experience with earning a bachelor's degree online?
I am interested in finishing my college education, but I can't 'go back to school' and I would like to pursue a degree completely online. Does anyone know of any reputable colleges/universities that offer online degree programs?

    • ANSWER:
Your best bet is to go to a state school that offers online classes. The other schools that advertise as being an online school are usually more expensive and your degree may not be worth anything.

  31. QUESTION:
would an online degree in early childhood education be just as good as on campus?
i want to get my bachelors in early childhood education but some colleges are just too far and online is more flexable while i work. however is it a smart choice to take online classes with the major that i want? i dont want to waste my time getting a degree online and have it mean nothing when im done. i live in new york if it matters. anyone know any good campus or online schools? thanks

    • ANSWER:
      It is not the same.
Most larger colleges and universities have lab schools where early childhood majors work and study under master teachers. This experience is priceless! "Book knowledge" about child development and education are worthless unless you have real-world classroom experience to back it up.

I used to run a large pre-kindergarten program and I gave up on hiring anyone - even as a teacher's aide - who had online education only. It simply did not transfer to practical skills in the classroom.

Consider taking basic core classes (math, literature, etc.) online through a college that offers both online and traditional classes. Later, go the extra mile to take a practicum or work in a lab school to finish out your degree. It is worth the extra time, effort, and work; you'll leave with experience that will help you be successful in the real world.

The only exception might be if you work in early childhood field already, at a reputable early childhood program. In that case, future employers might consider your work history, along with your online degree, and consider you to be well qualified.

  32. QUESTION:

  34. QUESTION:
Are you getting a degree online? Do you ever get negative comments about it?
I am, and I do. I'm working on a bachelor's degree online, and it's so frustrating when people bad mouth it. They don't seem to take me that seriously. I work just as hard as any other student. I'm afraid that if I get my degree online that it may be hard to get a job, because of some people having negative thoughts about online education. Do you ever wonder if this is possible? I love going online. It works for me and my schedule. I am just so tired of people bad mouthing me for it. If this happens to you, how do you deal with it (besides telling them off in an inappropiate way :) )?

    • ANSWER:
I didn't take an offline degree myself yet, but I found a real jerk who trashed online degrees.

I basically questioned the value of his degree, he "told on" me, and I got into trouble. But then, to make it even funnier, he's looking for an online PhD!

Some online degrees are wastes of money. There are a lot of disreputable firms to beware of.

I don't think online degrees help with many jobs. If the institution is not known for offline degrees as well, then it's likely not well thought of.

But what you can do is take the credits from the first half, and move to campus for the last part.

If you can't transfer the credits to an online campus, well, then it was a bad choice, sorry. You don't put it on your cv/resume unless you were doing nothing else at that time.

They shouldn't bad mouth you for it though. You may have been taken for a ride, but you learn from your mistakes. And if you learned something from the classes, well, it's the knowledge you use, not the degree.

  35. QUESTION:
Is it worth getting a bachelors degree online for ECE?
I'm starting college for Early childhood education in the fall, for the Associates degree. I am wanting a bachelors degree and found out I can take it all online. Would it be worth it? Salary wise, opportunity wise...

I am taking most online classes now for my associates so i'll be able to start working in a daycare for experience and stuff.. I don't know what I will be able to do with a bachelors degree..

    • ANSWER:
Make sure the school is accredited and that you can get a teaching license out of it, or it will be worthless. Look for NCATE credentials and also you can contact your department of education in your state if you are unsure. As a general rule of thumb, an associate is for daycare/preschool and the bachelors is for teaching PreK and elementary, but that varies from state to state. Good luck.

Does anyone know of any schools that offer such degrees? I have tried googleling schools and I've looked at several major university, but none offer a bachelors.
Nonprofit means that the school is not looking for just money and usually treat their students better. For instance, I attended ETSU and it's nonprofit, however; UOP is profit.....that's why tuition is so high.

SO I AM LOOKING FOR A NONPROFIT, NOT FREE, SCHOOL THAT I CAN ATTEND!

    Accredited distance education/online learning universities?
I am looking for the top and globally accredited universities that offer distance education/online learning Bachelors degrees programs. I want to be able to study from my home country.
I prefer when universities send you the books and material via mail and you can study in the convenience of your home.
Answers from those who have experience with such a mode of education is highly appreciated (and also some tips I can use when acquiring a degree through distance education), others as well.

University recommendations from all over the world are welcome (US, UK, Australia etc)
Universities that have both campus and distance education is preferred.

I did google but I don't want to go for Kaplan/Phoenix and unis like that... not convinced. :-/

Thanks! :) Best answer will be chosen by myself! :D

The major I want to pursue is in Psychology (BA/BSc)
Also, finance is not an issue.

    • ANSWER:
If you are open to US schools, the University of Massachusetts and the University of Florida have large programs. The University of Wisconsin has a very extensive list of independent study programs that are more "paper" based than online.
Also, probably the largest distance learning program in the world is actually the University of South Africa (UNISA).

Is DevRy good for online education?
Hello. I'm from Tashkent, Uzbekistan (it's not Pakistan or Afganistan) and I want to apply to DevRy because they have online education program. Is DevRy good choice for me? Or, maybe, there are some better universities out there?

My plan is to get a bachelors degree online and then move to the United States for masters degree.

And also I have one *very* important thing. I study here in Tashkent University of Information Technologies and I don't want to lose 3 years that I spent. Advisor from DevRy said that they'll try to compensate some of my classes so I won't have to take them again.

    • ANSWER:
DeVry is an excellent school. Contrary to the belief of the person above, it is NOT an online school. There are over 75 locations across the country and they are 75 years old. For students from 3 year degree programs like yourself there is a transitional program and then you can go on to the master's.

      www.keller.edu

However, you can take your courses online. Many military and execs who travel find DeVry a great benefit.

  47. QUESTION:
how many classes does it take to get a bachelor degree in Business information system ONLINE?
i am thinking about Western governors university. however, in their website they don't show the number of classes taken. so if you attended this online university or know about it. regardless of the general education, how many classes should i take to get into the major of business information system?

    • ANSWER:
Bachelor's will at least be 120, Grad will be about 45+ credits including (15 - 21 for major) depending on how they run their programs.

I think it's best you request information through their website and you can even request a guidance counselor to give you a call so that you can hear what they have to offer. If you don't like what you hear, you don't have to commit, that's the good thing about all this!!

      Good luck with your decision!

  48. QUESTION:
Will public schools hire a person who has an online bachelors in elementary education?
I want to pursue a career as an elementary school teacher and I am about to apply at the university of Phoenix. All classes can be done online except the last two of the bachelors program, which have to be taken on campus. I have heard that if you earn a degree online, even if it is from an actual University that it may be hard to find a teaching position. I don't have the option of going to school on campus full time because I have to work full time. Does anyone have any knowledge on this topic?

    • ANSWER:
Based on my personal opinion, I really do not see how this is allowed. I am finishing up my elementary degree this semester, and could not have imagined doing so online. I can only speak for myself, but I was required to complete 200 hours of observation/teaching along with my classwork. This was an integrated part of my courses. You can "learn" and be the most knowledgeable about the subjects you are going to teach, but you must learn how to apply this knowledge so students can understand. This, my friend is the hard part. You must practice classroom management strategies, that will allow for a successful classroom...the list goes on. I apologize for rambling.

So, yes. Unfortunately, I can see how you may be less likely to get the job. They may just say you don't have as much "experience", because frankly...you wouldn't.

      Good luck either way!

  50. QUESTION:
Best online Early Childhood Education Degree?
I recently received my bachelors in Social Work, and now want to teach. This was my big conflict when deciding on a major and I went the wrong way. I really want to get my bachelors in early childhood education, but I do not want to spend thousands of dollars! I am hoping to take online classes, and hoping that I can find a program that will only last 2 years. Does anyone know of anything?

    • ANSWER:
Well if you want to study for two years, an associate's degree would be a better option for you. A bachelor degree in early childhood education would take four years although that could be cut down to three should you take extra work loads.
A lot of people think online degrees are a breeze but the fact is that they are not if taken from an accredited online college.
There are a few colleges that I can recommend but do not be limited by these. You may do further research as this is a crucial decision.
      # Penn Foster College
      # Kaplan University
      # Jones International Online
Whichever college you choose, make sure you check its accreditation first. Attending an unaccredited college would mean wasting your time and money. There are many diploma/degree mills out there. They will lure you into joining them by charging low fees and offering easy course content. Having a degree from such institutions is embarrassing.
You must also check out the faculty of the selected college. A background research on the qualification and experience of faculty is very important. Ask the students of that college for their opinion. They could reveal what the college may be trying to hide.
Here is a link that gives more details on early childhood education degree.
      http://onlinedegreetalk.org/early-childhood-education-degree-online/

Accredited colleges are usually expensive. You could search for scholarships if you are related to einstein (lol) or seek financial aid.
      Best of luck
